From the tiny fado cafes of Lisbon, through the smoky cabaret lounges of Paris, to the steamy rhythms of a Rio Carnaval - 'Songs of the Romance Languages' will take you on a musical journey, crossing borders in the universal tongue. MO and ACE award nominee Miriam Waks presents the songs and stories of Brel, Piaf, Piazzolla, Yasmin Levy, Mariza and more; exploring a diverse range of styles including tango, fado, bossa nova and chanson. With songs of love, death and happiness in seven languages, this richly diverse and vibrant musical experience is a true celebration of the Songs of the Romance Languages.

It is purely a jazz creation of remarkable creativity and diversity. Melbourne's top jazz musicians get together for a truly infectious Latin Jazz session. This stellar line-up pulls out all the stops exhibiting some awesome virtuosic talent from all corners of the stage. Glen Roshe on drums simply sizzles, assisted by Jeremy Alsop's lightning electric bass licks, joined by Russian Piano giant - Vitaly Barishnikov, who displays solo jazz piano playing of the highest order. Topping off the line-up is Igor Oskolkov 's virtuosic electric and acoustic violin.

GYPSY MUSIC
Vardos go haywire when they perform on stage. The Roma Gypsy trio is originally from Perth. Now, they are part of our local Melbourne music scene. Much of their time is spent roaming with the gypsy musicians in Hungary and Romania. They bring back the authentic sounds of the gypsy soul as well as tales of humor and sadness. They hurtle through tunes at unfathomable speed and then, when they feel like it, go even faster. Every so often the pace would slow down so that Alana can sing a song and explain it to the audience. She tells tales of cheating husbands, unsatisfied wives and a longing for the elixir of youth. Vardos music zig zags through history and across national borders as fast as fingers could fly.

Concertino Trio�s focus is to brew a concoction of fiery gypsy music and Argentinean tango, taking on a fresh approach to reworking classic songs from these two genres, especially those by famous composer and performer Astor Piazzolla, Johannes Brahms , legendary Romano - Grigorash Diniku , Pablo de Sarasate and the master Carlos Gardel. The coming together of these genres gives rise to a unique event characterized by passion and euphoria. Concertino Trio is a Melbourne based band who have toured extensively within Australia and overseas. Nadya and her 101 Candles Orkestra vibrates souls, its infectious spirit bonding communities with each other and with the locals, and as past is mixed with present, generations blend.
