VARDOS
Vardos are a stunning trio. They serenade and interact with their audiences, playing Transylvanian dance tunes, popular Hungarian café concert music, and the latest horas from Bucharest. Vardos are Alana Hunt (violin), Sofia Chapman (accordion), and Kate Hosking (double bass).
All three are virtuoso musicians returned recently from a journey seeking music in Eastern Europe and learning Gypsy tunes direct from the source. They met and learned from Gypsy musicians in the village of Mera and the town of Kolozsvar in Transylvania (Western Romania), Lasi in Moldavia (Far-Eastern Romania) the village of Clejani, and the capital Bucharest in Wallachia, Southern Romania.
They also performed in festivals in Hungary and Switzerland.
Vardos are based in Melbourne, where they can regularly
be found at events, restaurants, and busking in the Victoria market.
